The SPIN community gathered in Voguë for its annual day and the Louis Néel Colloquium
On June 17, 2025, nearly 220 members of the scientific community and the SPIN Research Program gathered in Voguë, Ardèche, for an annual day dedicated to the program’s latest developments, the exchange of perspectives, and the presentation of new projects selected as part of the 2024 ANR Call for Projects. Discussions and meetings will continue until June 20 during the Louis Néel Colloquium, which is also supported by the SPIN program

As every year, this annual day was a key moment for the SPIN community. It offered an opportunity to review the program’s progress, share new scientific directions, and foster future collaborations.
Among the highlights, Thierry Ruchon, Director of Research at CEA (LIDYL), gave a talk on ultrafast spectroscopy and optical beams carrying angular momentum.
Aristide Lemaître, Director of Research at CNRS (C2N), traced the history of the use and development of semiconductor materials and heterostructures in the field of spintronics.
Hélène Fischer, in charge of science outreach for the program, presented upcoming initiatives, including:
> The rollout of the Magnétique exhibition in several cities across France;
> 1 chercheur, 1 manip initiative at the Palais de la Découverte, emphasizing the importance of supporting this emblematic venue for science communication
The new projects selected as part of the 2024 ANR Call for Projects were also introduced to the SPIN community and participants of the Louis Néel Colloquium, highlighting the continuity between research dynamics and the program’s collective ambitions.
The day concluded with a friendly cocktail reception, encouraging informal exchanges and the creation of new connections.
The Louis Néel Symposium: a major event for the magnetism community
Building on the momentum of the SPIN Day, the Louis Néel Colloquium takes over until June 20. Held every 18 months since the early 1990s, the event brings together over 200 scientists in a unique setting for three days of conferences, presentations, and discussions.
As a flagship event for the French magnetism community, the colloquium provides a forum for exchange on topics such as thin films and magnetic nanostructures, while fostering the development of collaborations at both national and international levels.
Special attention is given to showcasing the work of PhD students and postdoctoral researchers through oral presentations and poster sessions, making this event a showcase for the next generation of scientists.
