ESONN 2025: the 22nd edition passes the 1000-student milestone
From August 24 to September 6, 2025, Grenoble hosted the 22nd edition of ESONN, the international summer school dedicated to nanoscience and nanotechnology, which brought together 44 participants from 26 nationalities and from laboratories in 14 different countries. Combining theoretical courses, seminars, and hands-on laboratory work, the program highlighted cutting-edge topics such as spintronics, with contributions from world-renowned researchers.
ESONN is a prestigious international summer school offering an intensive, multidisciplinary program for those wishing to specialize in nanosciences and nanotechnologies. It stands out for: > A balanced and innovative approach between theory (lectures, seminars) and practice (laboratory work and cleanroom training), > Scientific excellence structured around two transversal sessions (QST and NBS), > An international atmosphere and high-level networking opportunities among participants.
During the 2025 edition of ESONN (European School on Nanosciences & Nanotechnologies), the Quantum Science Technology session featured a course entitled “Spin Physics and Spintronic Phenomena”, delivered by YoshiChika Otani (University of Tokyo).
The program also included a specialized seminar, “Spin-photon coupling: How to have a spin talk to a photon”, presented by Simon Zihlmann (Pheliqs), exploring spin–light interactions in the context of quantum technologies.
Other courses provided a broad and detailed exploration of quantum physics and spintronics, highlighting the prominent role that spintronics played in the scientific program of the school
Through its training mission, ESONN actively contributes to the SPIN Research Program. A look back in pictures at some of the highlights of this edition
