Recap of the latest TOAST Moonshot Project meeting
On October 9–10, 2025, the C. Bloch Auditorium of the Service de Physique de l’État Condensé (SPEC/CEA IRAMIS) hosted the annual workshop of the TOAST Moonshot Project, bringing together around forty participants to share their latest scientific advances. The event, organized by J.-Y. Chauleau (SPEC) and R. Lebrun (LAF), provided an opportunity to review progress achieved in a wide range of areas, including spintronic THz emitters, ultrafast magnetization dynamics, and femtomagnetism
The TOAST consortium workshop gathered partners around a scientific program alternating between short (15-minute) and long (30-minute) presentations, offering a comprehensive overview of ongoing research within the consortium.
Two invited speakers provided additional insights: Romain Géneaux (LIDYL/CEA) discussed attosecond XUV spectroscopy, while Quentin Rémy (FU Berlin) presented his work on femtosecond-scale magnon generation. Their contributions opened up new perspectives for the TOAST community.
The meeting concluded with a presentation by Jon Gorchon, the consortium coordinator, who reviewed the project’s latest developments. He highlighted progress on improving the energy efficiency of spintronic terahertz emitters and on picosecond-scale switching of magnetic memories of the MRAM type.
The workshop also served as a valuable occasion for exchanges among consortium members, notably during the conference dinner supported by PEPR SPIN.
Finally, a visit to the SPEC Nonlinear and Ultrafast Optics Laboratory offered participants a closer look at the experimental facilities central to the involvement of CEA/SPEC in the TOAST project.
The SPIN Research Program would like to thank the organizing team for their work in delivering an event that fully met the objectives set for the workshop day.
A warm thank-you goes to all participants for their active and collegial contributions, which made this event a success.
